October is approaching, and with it Halloween. I've noticed that this originally Celtic celebration is a big deal in Northern America, which makes sense because costumes and spooky stuff is fun. In my country of Portugal it's mostly just a day that kids can wear costumes to school, and there might be themed parties at bars and clubs. All Saints Day is seen as being more important.
Instead of Halloween we go crazy with Carnaval. Rather than just being a one day thing it's an event that lasts several days. It's basically the last hurrah before Lent, and I've always found it a lot of fun. It's just a shame that over here it happens during the rainy seasob. I also feel that like Christmas, it's overcome its association with religion.
Just wondering what everyone here thinks of Carnaval. Apparently gays love Halloween, so for those of you that come from big Carnaval countries (looking at you Brazil), do you feel the same way about this holiday? And what do you like most about it? And guys that don't come from a place where Carnaval is big, do you wish it was? For me the more holidays the better, which is why I wish Halloween was bigger!
