Am I just ugly or is my ethnicity putting guys off?

So I rarely have my face picture up on Grindr because I don't really get many messages.

I have tried to see what difference it would make if I put a picture up of a white guy. The last occasion, I got 5 messages in the first 5 minutes. I on the other hand would need to be on there for about an hour to get the same number of messages. This is his picture:

What I'm trying to understand is why would he get 10 times more messages than me? Yes he may be better looking than me but 10 times better looking? Am I ugly or is it because I'm South Asian? I live in the UK by the way.
