Him- I’m sorry I failed as a friend. Me- you didn’t fail as a friend, some people just don’t click. (Year later- he sends a message saying “you’re right, I didn’t fail as a friend, you did.”) how should I handle this?
Post Body

Long story short, I gradually lost interest in this friend because of compatibility. We had a lot of talks about things but I realized I can’t be the kind of friend he wants me to be. We both had different expectations and I couldn’t be the type to match his vibe. He’s not a bad person, but I felt we didn’t click. So I basically told him that and he understandably got upset and thinking that he failed as a friend. I let him down easy saying he didn’t. It’s been over a year of no contact and he suddenly replies to my text and says “you’re right, I didn’t fail as a friend. You did.”

Maybe he was drunk? Idk, but clearly he was still bitter about the whole thing. I’m not sure if he’s going to send a follow up, it’s been a few hours, but it just caught me off guard and it made me feel kinda shitty. Not sure what to say to him if I should say anything.
