So my daughter is an early teen, she wanted to legally change her name and sex(as in written sex for ID’s and what not)
My back story, I’m gay and open and have been for all my life practically so don’t think I’m coming into the wrong group to ask this. I am gay and want my like minded brothers to answer this.
I told her that she should wait till she is 18 to go about all this. Her mother(yes she knew I was gay, I just wanted a kid) instead of being a parent and letting the child know they are too young to make these kind of changes so soon, propelled her instead! For many years I fought this in a soft manner not to shame my little one, however this year I was served papers to allow her to do so. So I sat down and hashed it out letting my child sell me the idea the best she could. I then agreed to it. But I felt as if it was indeed the wrong decision so I only let her change her name to what she wanted. However so she could not use it later to chem or cut her self medically changing her body forever, I did not sign the sex/gender part.
You all see I’m just an old school gay, as in the days we would not let bi folks join in on our life for the same reason we now wish the trans folks would cool it down a little so it dosnt reverse our movement back to the beginning of time! Saying this, understand I am not ashamed of her, I am actually scared of her getting hurt or taken advantage of. Being in healthcare most of my life I have seen a lot of SI folks in the ER and PEDs and you know what the majority of them have in common? Yup Gender issues! I don’t want her to become part of that number!
