Do gay friends go to orgies/sauna together?

I'm not really in the "scene" though I have been to saunas before. My friends are mostly straight guys, but I see stories of people saying that they went to a sex party or orgy "with their friends." While my attitude towards sex is pretty casual I think it would be weird to have my friends see me having sex/see my friends having sex, somehow more so than if we were friends with benefits. Is that common for groups of gays that are more in the scene?
