Did he suspect I’m gay or was he just being friendly?

I’m (19m) not out and I’ve never been with a guy. Tonight I was hit on by a guy in the bookstore. He was friendly, asked a few questions about books and other interests and asked if I was seeing anyone. I just played it as if he was just being friendly and I wasn’t catching on. Is it likely that he suspected I’m gay or was he just testing the waters?
