How have you made long distance relationships work?

Post Body

I'm in a long distance relationship, bf is in school in another part of the country so things are a bit tricky.

Granted he's not horribly far away (Washington DC) and I'm in New York (where we're both from originally). The relationship has been going great so far. We talk almost every night for an hour or more to compensate for the distance.

However I'm concerned about when internships come rolling around (I've got another year or two for that, but I always think ahead).

Travel is always an issue too, he's come back up several times this semester; next semester is my turn to go down. Amtrak is kinda sorta cheap if you book far in advance (but predicting schedules is always an issue). He's recently been moved to a single, but cleaning out down there is for sure gonna be awkward in a communal bathroom. Fortunately I have over a million Chase points (shout-out to /r/churning) so booking a Hyatt is always an option. And we've recently come back from a mini-vacation that was miraculous.

Having said that, I want to make sure this keeps working out and want your input.
