I live in British Columbia, where the bar for entry level positions in the funeral industry is very low. In my province the funeral director profession is a trade where you can train on the job alongside some formal education to earn your credentials. Many people began careers as funeral directors or embalmers by working these entry level positions.
So that said, I have an interview on Tuesday at the 'big' funeral home in town. It's your standard old-school full service funeral home and they know I'm looking for an entry level position with no prior experience and they are fine with that. I'm not sure what job exactly I am applying for and the head funeral director says he is looking for someone who can 'wear many hats'. This naturally has me feeling a bit nervous, but I figure I can see what he's looking for in an employee and see if it's something relevant to my skills, educational background and experience.
I'm wondering if there are any questions specific to the funeral industry that I should be prepared to answer? Any funeral industry specific questions I should ask? Also, what are some very entry-level funeral home duties? I know hosting and custodial work are common, but is there anything else?
Thank you all so much for your time.
