What happens inside the body when someone gets "cotton fever"?

I no longer shoot my DOC & I haven't for 3yrs now. BUT I've always wondered what exactly happens inside the body when you get cotton fever? In the past I've had it atleast a handful of times and it's a pretty shitty feeling. If anyone could educate me on this I would greatly appreciate it 🙂
