Some time ago I saw many young adults sitting on the side of the streets, chewing leaves.
I was curious so I asked one of the men what they are chewing and he responded with gat or khat.
After a few hours I came back and same people were still there chewing the leaves putting them into their mouth and chewing wildly on them like on a tough piece of meat just chewing, chewing, chewing.
On the side of the path were parts of chewed leaves spit out for everyone to see.
Is this considered normal in other cultures?
