What did they pack into my holes.

This was placed right after extractions. Tastes a little funny. I'm confused about weather or not the clots will form under the gauze or what the deal is. I'm wondering what the dressing would be called as well. As far as I can tell there are also no stitches. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
