Hello! I had a premolar extracted Friday morning. It's now Saturday night and the dissolvable stitches are dangling low on one side. Should I be concerned?
Some background, I had decay on an upper premolar that went too deep under the gum line. I believe it's tooth 5. There was no abcess but the nerve was exposed and frequently painful. After xrays and drilling, I was told a root canal wouldn't work in this case so the tooth was extracted. It did not split during extraction. I was then given a bone graft and dissolvable stitches. I've been eating soft food in small bites. The most solid thing I've had is a soft, plain cheese quesadilla. Everything else has been applesauce, mashed potatoes, etc. I rinse with salt water after every meal. I hadn't eaten in hours and I was watching a video and suddenly I feel the end of the stitches drop on my tongue, like the end of the tie is hanging lower. It's still stitched and there's no bleeding or change in pain. Mild aching that's controllable with ibuprofen sometomes happens but that's it. I haven't bled since the first hour after extraction. Should I be concerned or is this normal? I was told the stitches might take a week to dislove and I don't really see anything dissolving.
I had my wisdom teeth out years ago as well but I really don't recall what happened with the stitches. I was also given an antibiotic. I do have some health conditions like hemiplegic migraines and hypothyroidism but they're treated with medication.
tl;dr Dissolvable stitches are suddenly hanging lower on day 2 after a premolar extraction. Is this bad?
Edit: Forgot to add, I don't drink or smoke. I tried wine once in middle school and nothing since.
