Thinking of downsizing car, but not sure if I can really get a better deal

Post Body

This is my first time posting on this sub, so apologies if this isn't the right place to ask.

I purchased a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder in Nov 2021 and am having a hard time justifying my monthly car note. It's also too big of a vehicle for me to drive, and with the price of gas right now.... getting a 3 row SUV might have not been the best move for my situation.

I called the dealership last week and set up an appointment to see what kind of options I have to downsize my car. In addition, I would like my monthly payments to shrink as well.

My concern is that I'm gonna show up at the dealership and basically walk out with a headache or heartache. I am thinking that they might offer a smaller sized car for the same monthly payments, and try to sell me a platinum trim of a Nissan Rogue for example... along with me ending up underwater for my current loan.

I'm at $42k right now with my pathfinder @ $686/mo. If I could get a car @ $450/mo that would be great. Is this even remotely possible, or should I just forget about it? TIA
