In a short situation. Car sold with passed inspection that shouldn't have.

Post Body

I bought a 2003 Subaru Baja from a reputable used car dealership in Roselle Park NJ. I live in the DC, MD, VA area and drove up to see the car. When asked about any issues I was told it was in perfect shape. I asked for a pre purchase inspection and was told that I couldn't take it to a dealership or anywhere else that my person would have to inspect it at the dealership. I don't know anyone in the area so I took them up on the offer to take it to their mechanic examine it and question them about it.

While at the mechanic I was told it passed all inspection, emission, and safety test. The only repairs they did was replace the transmission and all seals because it was leaking. The only repairs I was told it may need was brake pads. When examining the car I asked about a portion of the frame that looked suspicious. I was told it wasn't apart of the frame and was a redundant support bar of some sort. Also told there were no issues with the head gasket.

Fast forward 30 days. I take it in to get the brakes changed and come to find out. 1. The frame is non-existent, all replaced with foam and painted over with rubber. 2. All the calipers are rusted and locked up. 3. The transmission is leaking. 4. The axle was replaced and done badly. 5. The rear crash bar rusted out. 6. Head gasket is leaking coolant.

What can I do to repair this situation. Car fax was good with a single owner, no wrecks, and only 94k miles. Has the mechanic done anything illegal? Has the dealership?

I tried to do my due diligence and I am feeling very screwed over right now.

Paid 7140 cash.
