Dealer making threats over trade title

Post Body

Hello,

In february we bought a Kia Niro new. We traded in a beater for $500. The beater was titled in indiana and the dealer is in VA.

Since then and at least once a month they ask us for the title to the beater. We've told them repeatedly it hasnt been received, and they usually dont respond. They say that they cannot have it sent to them directly because of state laws, etc. Each time theyve asked us, we've followed up to make sure it hasnt been received or isnt in the mail (at an address in indiana)

Today we got a call that was abnormal. They called and said it was on us, they were threatening to sue us, told us to come pick up the car and they will repo the new one, etc. They cursed at us, raised their voice etc.

We are out of town. We literally offered to drive from VA to indiana to get the car title once we are back (in two weeks) but they said it wasnt quick enough and we needed to do it now (not just out of town, we are out of the country). They started saying it was a breach of contract with our bank and the bank would sue us, etc.

Lots of scare tactics and threats.

Ultimately we hate the car anyway and bought a different one. The kia just sits in our drive way and we let our au pair drive it when she needs to about once a month. We would be quite happy if they could literally just reverse the deal, cancel the loan, and give us back the $500 beater, but I have a hunch thats not actually possible.

My question is, is it actually possible or what actions can they take?

I'm not particularly worried about $500 or legal action, my partner works at a law firm and already has a lawyer promising to review everything when he's out of court.

EDIT/UPDATE: after a google review and a few emails the owner (not asshole sales manager) called and apologized. He reviewed our file, found what wrong. We have two powers of attorney (the title had two names on it) and after they requested title from the state they only submitted some kinda form with one signature filled instead of two. He said they will continue to work with us and asked us to โ€œkeep an eye out for itโ€
