My buddy is thinking about buying a 1993 truck that currently has its original gas motor (not in great shape), his thought is that he can swap in the diesel motor from that same year/make/model and get it legally inspected and registered. Is this possible in California? If so would it then become smog exempt for being pre 1997? Im very curious any info is appreciated. Thanks.
