Okay okay, this likely is a dumb question, and if it is, I'll take it down, but is it racist to play persona 5?
I'm asking for a very specific reason. When the first persona game was released in the west, they made some... very racist choices. This was in the 90's (more specifically, 1996). They whitewashed all of the asian characters except one: Mark. Mark goes from an asian man to a stereotypical Black man with broken AAVE and things that are reminiscent of Black culture, but from the eyes of someone not in Black culture. The most racist thing, though, is that they made monkey sounds towards him (I don't even think it was the villains).
Remember thar was in 1996.
Now, Atlus (the game company that makes persona and the megami tensai games) has not apologized for that, but has changed how the release games after that by not changing anyone's race (so their Black characters really ended with Mark, but their white characters are gone, as well, as they are all japanese asians in the persona games except for the western release of the first game).
So, it seems like they somewhat changed but have not made a public apology, either. So is it racist to play persona 5...?
Again, if this is a dumb question, I'll take it down.
