I'm a non-EU expat living and working in Berlin since January 2020 non-stop for the same news agency. Initially, I was giving the 18C work visa stamped in my passport which is a visa that high-skilled (Fachkrafte) people get. Then last year and this year, my work visa was given to me as an ID card and for some inexplicable reason was switched over to 19C which is the unskilled work visa that everyone coming to Germany basically without any qualifications gets. Given that it happened twice (last year and this year), I don't think it's a mistake. How is it possible that I went from a year with the right visa to then getting a weaker one the next two years? Usually people stay with the same visa or get a better visa that is compatible with skills and their education, not worse visas that everyone who comes to Germany gets. I don't understand this and I am thinking about contacting a lawyer to get to the bottom of this.
