People who are subletting without landlord's permission: you are also commiting tax evasion!

There are thousands of people in Berlin subletting every month without permission, do you also not declare it to Finanzamt? Are you aware that you can go to prison for upto 10 years for that and your if you're a foreigner, your residence permit can be revoked? Seems too risky, and it's crazy to see so many people doing this as if it's "normal"

Every Tom, Dick and Harry seems to be subletting their apartment when going for 2 week to a few months of vacation and I've always wondered whether they just ignore the tax related consequences. I also wonder how the Finanzamt doesn't notice this.
