What's the best way to pick a therapist these days? Can I find one for my specific needs?
Post Body

Hello - I live in Houston, Texas and I'm looking for a therapist and I'm wondering how I can do some work beforehand to find someone who will really fit. I've been to two therapists in my life. One when I lived in New York City, and then a different one when I moved to Houston. Both were truly fantastic, but they couldn't have been more different in their approaches. After experiencing them both, I realized that you can have vastly different outcomes as a patient, depending on who you end up choosing to go to. I got a lot from both of them, but I feel like I need someone who has an approach that is more in between the two therapists I was seeing before. At the same time, as a patient, you really don't have the knowledge to understand what schools of thought a therapist comes from and if theirs is the optimal approach to your specific situation. So I'm wondering if this community of therapists might have some recommendations on how someone like me can best figure out who to be working with. Are there online platforms that do a questionnaire to maybe funnel you towards someone who specializes in your area of needs? Or do you try out a consult call with multiple different therapists to see who will fit? Would love any advice you might be able to lend.
