Hey everyone! My essay questions for my masters program want me to discuss why I think I would be fit for the program, with an emphasis on the characteristics I hold that would be beneficial for pursuing a career as an LCSW (less emphasis on resume credentials). How do you explain your competencies / personal qualities (in leadership, empathetic, organized, resilient) without sounding pretentious? Especially as a white person with a privileged background, I don’t want to give off white savior complex while trying to explain that I value a background in DEI and culturally conscious modalities for social work?
I’ve always been the kid that rooted for the underdog, and with my personal experiences of bullying and generally being ostracized I have become very justice oriented and it’s part of the reason why I want to be a therapist. I especially feel drawn to the MSW because i found out i am neurodivergent and that my adhd was misdiagnosed for years, because as a woman the symptoms are not well studied and therefore women often are misdiagnosed with anxiety because of this bias. So in sum, do you think my own personal experiences (if fleshed out more) reflects my strong belief in the ecological model approach to therapy?
Any and all comments are appreciated!!
