Question about a rectangular right ascension versus declination map
Post Body

Hi /r/astronomy,

I am playing with displaying the data from the HYG database (link). I've made a basic image showing the stars by right ascension versus declination:

When looking at these images, I see an almost sinusoidal curved band with a higher concentration of stars. Is this expected (i.e. am I plotting this right?), and if so, what is the cause?

Thanks in advance =]
