Why don't annular solar eclipses cause an apparent decrease of daylight?

Post Body
I witnessed both the annular eclipse on 14-Oct-2023 and the complete solar eclipse on 8-Apr-2024 but only noticed a decrease in daylight during totality. Given full annularity occludes around 99% of the sun, I expected there to be less daylight but it was just as bright outside as a normal day. Was this phenomenon simply the human eye's ability to function at different light levels or is there a negligible decrease in light during the annular eclipse?
