The nebula textures used for an old game are taken straight from real life photographs and I'm curious to find out which ones. Problem is, most of them are too low-res for Google Reverse Image search to work its magic.
The first one is this texture of a yellow nebula, which Google quickly identified as this 1996 photo of NGC 604.
The second one is this blue nebula, which Google identified as the Eagle Nebula, but the closest it found was this 2022 photo of it and this old gif from an old website which appears to be a wider but still very small version of the source photo, though it means a bigger version exists somewhere. Can anyone identify what the source photo is and provide a link to the highest resolution version of it?
The third one yields no useful results from Google. It seems to be 3 or 4 nebulas or galaxies, including what appears to be NGC 604. Does anyone know what image this texture is sourced from, or if it's a mashup or different photos, the identity and source photos of the other nebulas/galaxies in here?
The source photos used for these textures are taken before the year 2000 since the game came out in early 2001, hope that helps narrow down the search!
