Al-Sufi’s “Book of the Stars.” Any value?
Post Body

Novice here.

One of the two star-gazing apps I’ve been using—Stellarium—gives me information on the stars as recorded by Al-Sufi. (Along with multiple other sources’ info.)

Before coming across this, I’d noticed a number of stars had Arabic names in addition to their alphanumeric names, and I was interested to learn more about how those Arabic names came to be and their cultural importance at the time of naming, whether in the 10th century or otherwise.

[edited] Is this a helpful resource for the novice and, if so, how?
