Gollum Patient Plotter sac itself from field?

I have a [[Smeagol, Helpful Guide]] commander deck and I have [[Gollum, Patient Plotter]] in the deck. I've had times where I'd like to be able to sacrifice Gollum from the field using its own ability to return to hand and get a Ring Tempts me trigger. Does that work? Thanks :)
