I tried posting similar questions to /r/conservative and /r/republican, but their mods deleted them before anyone could answer.
It seems to me that social conservatism has been on the wrong side of history time and time again. Slavery, interracial marriage, civil rights, women's suffrage, gay marriage, etc. As society progresses we tend to adopt more liberal positions on issues, and those in favor of keeping things as they are (ie conservatives) are not typically remembered fondly. Think of how we demonize the protesters of the Little Rock 9 today.
How do conservatives come to term with this, if they do at all?
