Need some professional advice.
Post Body

Hello Toronto.

I need some advice on the professional front. New to Canada and am not fully aware of the laws and office culture yet I guess.

I got fired last week and I strongly think it was not justified. I am not completely sure how things work here and wanted to get your thoughts / opinion on this. Here is some background.

- I have more than 8 years of exp. in sales. I moved to Canada about a year back and have not been able to find anything in my line or work since everyone here asks for Canadian exp. So I have been working with call centers and applying to relevant positions.

- I quit my previous job in December and joined a new company on 4th January. I was doing very well at my previous job and met 108% quota achievement last quarter.

- The new job promised a lot of things during the interview process. It was slightly more in-line with my past experience and the industry that I had worked in. They promised me the right kind of work and growth opportunities. However, the truth was far from it. The ground reality was very bad and I felt cheated. I did not complain since I was mentally prepared that I would have to start from the bottom and use my exp. and skills to build my way up. I was confident that I would succeed.

- Things changed when the VP of sales started being very rude and disrespectful. He was mean, condescending and very very disrespectful. Especially after he came to know that I had moved to Canada recently.

- On Thursday, we had a call where we disagreed on a few things. In my head, we were just 2 team members having a disagreement on certain things. However, he went on to tell on me to the CEO. Things escalated and I got fired.

So essentially, I guess my questions are these:

  1. Is it very common for managers here to be very bossy and rude to their peers?
  2. Is it offensive to disagree with your manager or to give feedback and make suggestions?
  3. Is there a culture of bias against new immigrants that you have noticed?

I do not mean any disrespect and just want to learn more to be better at my next job(s).

I have not been asked to sign anything. Just got an email from the CEO saying my services have been terminated.
