My parents are visiting from abroad. First time in Canada, everything had been great so far. We went out for a walk minutes ago, and while crossing Queens Park, a guy emerged from a bush yielding a large stick and trying to hit my dad. He had no choice but to run and cross the street to avoid the attack. The dude had his other hand hidden in a pocket. What should we do in this case? Is it worth reporting to the police?
I've heard that in Canada, there's no such thing as self-defense. Is this true? Would we have been convicted if we had punched the guy?
