hi! recent a level grad here who recently accepted smu biz offer but i’m thinking whether to apply for an appeal for accountancy (i met the cop so it should be fine)
i applied for biz at first since i’m not entirely sure what i wanna do don’t have any super strong interests (i am interested in psychology and geography but the career pathways seem more uncertain for those 2 degrees i am interested in it but not SUPER interested in it)
for business i thought it would be good since there are various specialisation, and that i’ll have more time to discover what i like since i don’t need to choose my major until year 2.
however, i do know that business degrees are very general, so there isn’t much point to it(?) as not that many technical skills or knowledge will be built or am i wrong?
and an accounting degree is pretty technical, so i may learn more hard skills so the degree may be more worth it?
i don’t know what i want to do in the future, but i do know i want a job w work life balance, not too math-y. pay wise i don’t need to be rich, i just wanna be comfortable and move out of my parents house. it would also be good if i could work abroad in the future too, but that is optional.
would accountancy be a good fit for this? i’m also rather introverted so i don’t wanna get into sales or insurance etc. i’m okay w some interaction w people, but i don’t want a job where i needs to do it 24/7 and try to get people to like me.
i didn’t pick accountancy at first because i heard it’s a lot tougher than biz, and that the work life balance at the big accountings firms are very bad.
but is it still possible to progress in the accounting industry if i don’t end up in the big 4 accounting firms, but instead aim for MNCS so i’ll have better work life balance? or is the industry still very tough?
thanks!
