Why ppl who eat meat called Carnivorous and not, called vegan/vegetarian ?

I thing i never understood was the wrong definition, because if you eat plant, vegetables, root ect normally youre called herbivore no ?
And for those who eat meat is more complexe, because animal eat meat from animal who died in front of them they are sometimes eating when they are alive, or shortly dead.
For our case the animal is dead for a long time, even if its frozen or chilled, then normally meat eater need to be called: Scavenger/carrion, right ?
