EDIT: Power is back on
Long story short, we lost power last night while it was -1°. As of 11:00am this morning (12/24) the power still had not been restored, and our homes temperature had plummeted to 52°.
I called 7 hotels before finally getting too discouraged to call another. I PLEADED with them that my wife and I have 6 month old twins and we needed a warm place until the power gets restored.
I got the exact same response from each of them. “Sorry, hotel policy. We don’t rent to locals.”
I won’t bore you with all the details of how rough the night has been, but I’m just curious why this is a policy, and how there is absolutely no exception to this rule!
I was near tears in frustration and angst trying to figure out what to do for my family.
I had a similiar experience during the pandemic. Water line broke at my apartment complex and wouldn't be able to be repaired for a day or two. I ended up booking online at a local hotel. When I checked in they kicked up a fuss about the "no locals" policy. I fired back that their website never listed that as a restriction and that I had already paid. Plus I was without water, wouldn't normally even book a room otherwise. Told the manager that I'd just call their corporate number to sort this out. Funny how the second I started dialing he changes course.
