As many folks are looking to volunteer and help over the holidays, here are a few places to look into:
Holiday Specific:
Multiple opportunities through the Hands On Asheville link below.
Hearts With Hands is offering Thanksgiving meals, but their volunteer sign up is full.
Western Carolina Rescue Mission has some spots available on Tuesday, Nov 26th (Monday and Wednesday are full).
Blunt Pretzels, linked below, is doing a Thanksgiving dinner and needs volunteers, but the form does not seem to specifically say you're signing up for Thanksgiving or not.
General Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
Hands On Asheville - you can browse and search different opportunities to volunteer, mostly Asheville and Buncombe County. You can also present to the The Volunteer Reception Center at 50 S French Broad Ave, Asheville, NC 28801. It will be open daily from 8am-1pm. Anyone looking for a volunteer opportunity is welcome to simply go to the VRC to be assigned to a need. A variety of skills are wanted, so there should be something for everyone.
Samaritan's Purse in Mitchell and Yancey County - help with tree work, roof tarping, debris cleanup, and mud outs.
Samaritan's Purse Buncombe County - Same as above
ABCCMÂ - this is the volunteer inquiry to fill out. They are still accepting personal/individual donations as well as "palletized" donations. Their Facebook page has an updated list of needs and recently posted a need for volunteers to help with food deliveries.
Supporting WNC - scroll down to "I want to volunteer" and click it. This takes you to a spreadsheet of many opportunities. It appears that after locating an opportunity, you have to contact the organization yourself to sign up.
Blunt Pretzels in Swannanoa needs volunteers for food prep.
NECHAMA - Jewish Disaster Response, you do not have to be Jewish to volunteer, working with homeowners
