The four popular restaurants under the Scheffer group - Vinnies, Vinnies South, Jettie Raeโs, and Gan Shan - have been forced to lay off their employees due to the water outage. Their operations manager (previously made unwittingly viral from his epic roast of a homophobic review you may remember) says:
โWhat I said in my response to that review earlier wasn't lip-service. I care deeply about the well-being of my employees, and try to look at what that means holistically, every day.
Laying off all of my employees isn't a new experience. We survived Covid. We hired everyone we could back, when we could.
This feels worse.
I can't give them a timeline. This time, they don't have federally boosted unemployment. They aren't getting stimulus checks. It feels like a disservice. It sucks.
I am an employer. I am also just a person. I just want to help them. I don't know how else to do it.โ
