Mitchell County October 10th update
This is a recording of the October 10th 9 am update from the radio station WTOE. Mitchell County government is relying heavily on this local radio station to provide information but some residents can't hear this station at their homes and not everyone knows they are doing updates there. They do a daily briefing at 1 pm and then updates at 9 am, 11 am, and 3 pm. The station is at 1470 AM and 101.1 FM and can be streamed at ourlocalcommunityonline.com (going to wtoe.com automatically redirects there). Apologies for the sound quality.
In this update there is a mention of the Volunteer Reception Center at the Mitchell County Senior Center but I think they left out how to contact this resource. Residents in need of help and volunteers who can provide help can call 828-660-0818 or email [email protected] or just go to the Senior Center (152 Ledger School Rd, Bakersville, NC 28705). The hours are daily 8 am to 5 pm. If you're not sure what help you might need or can provide, I'd suggest reaching out to them. They have been helpful.
I think the website address for Mitchell County government was also incorrect toward the end of this update. The Mitchell County website is mitchellcountync.gov and the county's Helene Response Resources page is mitchellcountync.gov/helene-response-resources/. The Helene Response Resources page gets updated though I'm not sure how often. The date posted right now is October 9th at 9 pm. As far as I can tell, it was previously updated on October 7th so it doesn't seem to be updated every day. The county is also relying on the Mitchell County, NC Government Facebook page which is hard for some people to access due to the current state of cell service in the county.
I know it can be hard to get information on what is going on in Mitchell County. Hope this helps.
