We have several large trees in our backyard and some of the companies driving through neighborhoods offering to look at trees post-storm are doing more harm than good. It's obvious that many of them are looking to make a buck. We have several large trees in our backyard and are justifiably freaked out that they remained standing, and are wondering whether they were weakened with the storm. We are being told some things that are very obviously not true, and other things that are scaring us, that we later learn are also not true (for instance, one guy told us there were cracks in our bark that were new and concerning; later on that myth was dispelled by someone who said that white oak bark just cracks, period, and those "cracks" are normal and not new at all). We are looking for an objective opinion to base our actions in, a company that will attest to what we should do and why. Any recs would be highly appreciated. We have no problem taking trees down granted they are actually a risk and someone just isn't trying to make money off of the situation.
