Sharing what I heard the sheriff tell a reporter on a call the other day. If you hear something alarming via the rumor mill and don’t have confirmation, it is okay to ask about it. However, do not repeat the rumor in detail when asking about it! Instead, stay vague. This prevents hoaxes from spreading.
Hoaxes are a waste of resources. For example, the sheriff said that the hoax about a dam failure that was going around over the weekend took several hours for water department folks to go investigate and debunk. If I catch you wasting the water department people’s time right now, my nasty unshowered ass will personally come over and slap you with a wet noodle 😤
