Official unemployment figures for the Asheville economy were updated today. Numbers for March have been finalized and preliminary figures for April have now been made available.

March

The unemployment rate fell to 3.0% in March. 2,150 positions were added, with only 2,039 workers entering the labor force causing the unemployment rate decrease. The overall Nonfarm Payrolls figure did not change significantly. No individual sector saw significant employment changes.

April (preliminary)

The unemployment rate fell to 2.7% in April. 768 positions were added, and 118 workers left the labor force causing the unemployment rate decrease. The overall Nonfarm Payrolls figure did not change significantly. No individual sector saw significant employment changes.
