Hello, just joined the sub today and read through the FAQ as well as a few similar posts to this but wanted to get a more direct response. Basically I want to write a fantasy story and my main character I specifically decided I didn't want them to have any love interest/romantic B plot and it occurred to me that I could make them asexual to help with the lack of representation. That being said I am hetero and to my knowledge I have no Ace friends to ask these questions to. I have spent the better part of the morning starting my research and plan to continue, but I want some more direct feedback as if I am going to write this I want to do it right. My questions are as follows:
- Is this even a story I should tell or should I leave it to actual Asexual people to write? I have characters of other sexual orientations but this would be the first time I had a non-hetero character as the main character and don't want to make assumptions about what they think like or mess it up.
- What are some things you would like to see in regards to representation that maybe don't get covered as much?
- What pitfalls have you seen from poor or misguided representation that I should look out for?
- What are some stories you would recommend with good representation that I could read to help me? Any book will be fine, but if there is actually a good source for this in fantasy that would be even better.
Thanks in advance and if there is anything I didn't ask about but you feel it would be good for me to know I will be grateful for the help.
