Just how bad is asbestos? About a year ago, me and my father were cleaning out a 40ft container we purchased online, and discovered about 10 sheets of asbestos that the seller had hidden under black plastic under a pile of rubbish. We swept it out and stood the sheets up (not knowing it was asbestos at this point) and took a load of rubbish to the local waste management centre. Upon arrival, the worker notified us that the sheets were in fact asbestos, and we didn't dispose of them immediately. Now these sheets stayed in the container stood up, and I used that container as a smoking/hangout room for about a year after finding them. I never touched the sheets again so i wasn't disturbing the fibres, but there is little ventilation in there. I hung out in here knowing what was next to me (about 6-7m away) and could never see any dust fibres in the air.
I know if i was succeptible to any damage, it's already been done and there's probably nothing i can do about it. I've probably spent around 2-300 hours sitting on a lounge in there. My question is: is it really that bad when it's just sitting there? The sheets had chips in them, but as stated before they were only touched that one time when standing them up. Is there any sort of tests I can do or measures I can take to reduce the risk of an injury down the line from the damage that I may have already caused myself? FYI: I no longer smoke, so I no longer go inside this shipping container.
Thanks guys
