Lots of you had input on the new Rules and Mission Statement. As we said in the thread, we are actually listening to you, and we're continuing to evaluate both your concerns and how things seem to be working in execution. This process is still ongoing (and, honestly, always will be), but we've already got a couple of changes to announce.

First, a lot of concern was given over how the moderators of this sub use stickied comments in threads. Our intention was to try and make more common topics easier to resolve this way, but it didn't really work out and created a lot of resentment. That resentment wasn't unreasonable. So, from here on out, mod comments will only be sticked in a thread if they serve an administrative function as can be seen in this example.

We are also introducing an edit to Rule 5. It says "recent" post, but that doesn't seem to be specific enough for some people, who are already reporting topics that were last seen a year ago. We don't feel like that fits the definition of "recent", but some do. That being the case, we'll put an unambiguous number on it. The new wording of Rule 5 will be:

5.Search First, and show it. Reference any threads that may have touched on but not answered your question or topic. If your post is covering the same topic as another post in the last 3 months, we will delete it.

This should hopefully remove some of the ambiguity that has led to a few frankly ridiculous reports of threads based on Rule 5.

As I mentioned above, the review of the rules and policies of this sub are perpetually ongoing, and we're always looking for feedback. If you want to discuss these two changes, this thread is the place to do that. If you still have concerns about other topics, don't hesitate to message the mods. We take each message seriously, and discuss them thoroughly.
