Thank you to everyone who participated in the discussions on the First /r/Asatru Thing. There was a lot of good discussion, a lot of good ideas and a real chance to see how the community felt on a number of topics. That said, in the interest of keeping this subreddit as open as possible, we've boiled down that discussion to three major areas that people sometimes need reminders about and we can point out to people as being basic ideals of this community, things that should be followed if they want to be a part of it.
Civil Debate- Keep it civil. We don't mean it has to be friendly. Nor does it have to be sugar coated. In fact, your opinion can be as blunt as you want to make it. We won't censor offensive words. You can go on the offensive and attack, but make sure you've got the target right. Attack ideas, not people. Personal attacks will not be tolerated from anyone.
Religion Bashing- A lot of us came to Asatru from other religions and a lot of us have baggage associated with that past. We understand that. It's understood that once in a while a bitter comment will get made, a joke that's a little more vitriolic than is in good taste will come out, but lets try to keep that to a minimum, eh?
Racism- This is the one thing that no one here has any time for. We don't care what you call it: Racism, white nationalism, or whatever else you choose to call ideas of exceptionalism, exclusionism, or separation, these ideas are not welcome in this community and will not be tolerated. Period. Take it somewhere else because it's the quickest way to get kicked out of here.
For now that's it. We don't want this to be a tightly controlled environment; a place not of rules but of open ideas and discussion. More may be added to later, or modified as needed but we want to keep it simple. And thanks to everyone for making this sub great and a place where we can keep it simple.
