Arturia KeyLab Mk2 61
Post Body

Hey folks,

I am thinking of going for a MIDI-keyboard that lets me both utilize some knobs and buttons for producing drum-tracks in my DAW (Cubase) as well as give me the option of using it to play piano-lines. My eye caught the Arturia KeyLab Mk2 61, which is small enough to fit on my desk but big enough to offer versatility.

I am, however, somewhat confused on the concept of aftertouch. I am more or less okay with not having hammer-mechanics (the price you pay for less than 88keys) but I'd still be able to keep several keys pressed over time while playing piano melodies, e.g. using a virtual synth, piano, or whatever. Will that be possible with the aftertouch mechanics? Or will it, as I sometimes read, mean that when I hold multiple keys, e.g. a C-chord in the left hand and a g and an e in the right hand, only the one last pressed will be recorded at length and the others get cut off?

I hope the question is understandable. I do have the option of just buying and possibly sending back from Thomann but I prefer to just directly go for the option that suits me best. I'd be really happy if someone could explain it to me.
