Fall of . . . blushingscarlet!
Post Body

Hey everyone! /u/CatzerzMcGee has been busy lately and has allowed to me to take over the community interviews threads. Here's hoping I don't mess it up.

First up is someone is I've actually met, /u/blushingscarlet!

How/when did you start running?

I started running in 2010 during the summer between my freshman and sophomore years of college because my boyfriend at the time was getting into running, and I thought it sounded cool. I was in Arizona and got my start on a treadmill in my apartment complex gym because AZ summers are really hot. Running was an on-off thing for me for quite a while until the past year. I’ve finally discovered the magic of consistency and running more miles...did you know that running more can make you faster?

What are your PRs?

Mile – 6:02 5k – 20:17 10k – 45:46 (set during a training run) Half marathon – 1:34:50 Marathon – 3:58:10 (itching to crush this one) 50k – 5:35:31

Favorite shoes to train or race in?

New Balance 1400 = bae for races Training shoes are basically whatever is on sale that feels like a somewhat natural fit for my feet. On trails, I loveeee my Nike Zoom Terra Kigers.

What's your next race?

Nutcracker 12 Hour Endurance Run on December 9th.

What are your goals this year?

Get at least 50 miles in at the Nutcracker race - Finish Umstead 100 - Build up mileage to a consistent 40-45 miles per week (or more, if time allows) - Sub 20 5k? Except 5ks are kind of miserable...

Proudest running accomplishment?

Definitely my half this past October. I had no idea I had sub-1:35 in me, especially since I had done minimal speed work. Absolutely the best I’ve ever felt running. I'm still so proud of myself :)

What do you do outside of running?

PA (physician assistant) school, drink craft beer, watch films from the Criterion Collection, eat pizza.

What other hobbies/interests do you have?

Craft beer, viola (though I haven’t picked it up in a few months…), film, the Grateful Dead. I’ve been wanting to paint for a while and hopefully will get to it/force myself to paint something during my winter break.

Favorite subreddits?

Aside from r/ARTC, I'm a fan of r/pizza and r/castiron. Not that I participate…it’s more like window-shopping (window-eating?).

Origin of your username?

It was originally created for – cringe – my Gaia online account during junior high. (Gaia online was kind of like Neopets except you played as an anime character and it was more of a role-playing thing. Probably the nerdiest thing I was ever a part of, haha). I used to get embarrassed really easily and would turn bright red. For whatever reason, I thought it would be a good online username? Idk, but it has stuck with me in a few different iterations ever since.

Strava link if you use it?

1 - If you're in the US, do you have any Thanksgiving traditions? Fun turkey trots? If you're not in the US, do you think we're all crazy for having a holiday centered around eating a bunch of food?

2 - What's your dream running holiday? Setting mile world records in Alaska? Marathons on the beach?

3 - Now that Nike's 4% shoe claim has been confirmed are you itching to go out and pick up a pair?

4 - Any suggestions for the new run of community interview threads? New questions you'd like to see or ones you want changed?

5 - Anything else you'd like to add?
