I have been an artist for several years - for the past two I have been selling my art at local craft shows in my area. While my small pieces generally sell really well, I have a harder time selling my bigger pieces ($100-$500) because, of course, no one goes to a craft show to buy a piece of art for several hundred dollars. I have sold a few out of galleries or by custom order, but not a ton.
My biggest feedback I get at every show is that I should do "art shows" and not "craft shows" and I do not disagree. I am about 3 hours away from Chicago, and so it's my plan to apply for some of the juried art shows that will be taking place there this summer. HOWEVER - a couple of concerns/questions.
1 - I don't have a website. I have a FB page with maybe 500 followers. Admittedly I know I need to get better about promoting myself or hire someone who can - is not having a website a detractor when applying for art shows?
2 - I don't have a professional looking booth. This is my biggest concern. I'm willing to invest in ProPanels and get a very professional looking booth, but even if I ordered them today they would not be here before a lot of the application deadlines at the end of the month. I am going to reach out in my community and see if anyone has some I could borrow just to stage photos, or reach out to our local art guild and ask for them help just for photos - but in a worst case scenario, how important would you say the booth photo is in the juried part of deciding who participates?
3 - If anyone has experience with being on a jury or just art festivals in general and would you be willing to take a look at my photos and give any feedback?
Thanks!
