While watching the original run (S1-S3) of AD I realized something about Ann and George Michael's mother- they had a lot in common.
Throughout the series the Bluths express indifference, even dislike towards GM's mother and Michael's late wife without really expressing why. It's the sort of ambivalence that Michael has about Ann. It's indicated in the script that Michael's late wife was a plain/homely woman (the mockup of what GM would have looked like as the child of Sally Sitwell and Michael Bluth is a good indication) who didn't leave much of an impression on the rest of the family.
Much like GM falls for a girl who has no remarkable qualities and is ignorant to the fact that the rest of the family doesn't get what he sees in her, Michael is ignorant of the fact that he's treating his son's girlfriend like his family treated his wife.
Moreover, GM falling for a girl that reminds him of his mother is on theme for the incestuous undertones in the series.
What do you think?
