Disclaimer: I am not aromantic, I just take my platonic relationships seriously.
I dislike how society doesn't value platonic relationships as much as romantic relationships.
Society is also romantic-coded which also devalues platonic relationships!
It's crazy...
I mean, when people think of the words relationship and love they automatically think of romantic love/relaitonships.
Romantic relationships shouldn't be seen as the default, I think plaotnic relationships should be seen as the default.
The language that we use when we talk about love/romantic relationships undervalues plaotnic love.
E,g, I rarely if ever see anyone tell their friends that they makes them happy, that they are grateful to have them in their lives, that they're the best thing to happen to them but when it comes to their romantic partners they're more than happy to say that to them!
QPRs and PLP (Plaontic Life Partner) are both as equally valid as romantic partnerships!
Platonic relationships are one of the first relationships we enter as humans. So it should be logical that they should be celebrated.
I don't think many people know about Friendship Day, it's on the 30th of July every single year!
I don't see many songs or films about platonic love.
I also dislike how "I love you" has been seemingly gatekept by romantic relationships. E,g, you seemingly can't tell your friend that you love them without them possibly thinking that you romantically love them.
I've been told by someone that they tell their friends" I love you bro." so that they know that it's romantic love. Why would you even need to do that?! Shouldn't you know that your friend loves you?
My main issue is that people seem to put less effort and care into their platonic relationships than they do into their romantic relationships.
A lot of people seem to think that platonic relationships don't need as much care or maintenance as romantic relationships.
I've noticed that many people seem to like casual/low-maintenance friendships where they go weeks/months without contact.
I don't think that's ever okay to do to your friends, to me, it heavily implies that you don't see your relationship with your friend as a (serious) commitment. Aren't friendships supposed to be a commitment?
There's a double standard that I really dislike, apparently, it's "needy" to want your friends to talk to you often, check in on you often and spend time with you often or put as much care and effort into your relationship with them as they would as their romantic partner but when someone is in a romantic relationship it's not needy for them to do any of that, it's all expected!
I take my platonic relationships VERY seriously! I always make sure that put effort into all of them, I make sure they know that I care about them!
Romantic feelings shouldn't automatically be seen as more important than platonic relationships.
Don't these people realise that you chose to be in platonic relationships with your friends?
Why don't people care about platonic relationships as much as romantic relationships?!
Aren't both of them important?
They're both based on an emotional bond and trust! They deserve equal care!
