Since someone asked about 17C in the Recruiter thread, and the Chap 10C for it just posted to the AR 611-21 Smartbook, I figured I'd give you guys the overview.

From what I can tell, it looks like 25D, 35Q, and possibly some others are going to be converted to 17C. The mission for a 17C is as follows:

Cyber Operations Specialists execute offensive and defensive cyberspace operations in support of the full range of military operations by enabling actions and generating effects across all domains. Cyber Operations Specialists ensure the freedom of maneuver within the cyberspace domain and denies the same to adversaries. Cyber Operations Specialists enable Offensive Cyberspace Operations (OCO) intended to project power by the application of force in and through cyberspace by targeting enemy and hostile adversary activities and capabilities. Cyber Operations Specialists enable Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO) in order to protect data, networks, net-centric capabilities, and other designated systems by detecting, identifying, and responding to attacks against friendly networks. Cyber Operations Specialists conduct integrated and synchronized OCO and DCO with other lethal and nonlethal actions to enable commanders to mass effects and gain advantages in cyberspace and across other domains which directly or indirectly support objectives on land by employing devices, computer programs, or techniques, including combinations of software, firmware, or hardware designed to create an effect in or through cyberspace

The MOS is available for PFC through SGM. You will not be able to enlist for it, and it would seem that you will only be able to get it (for now) out of AIT, or via an in-service reclass. The requirements for most of you will be 110 GT, 113 ST, Qualify for a TS/SCI and pass a CI scope polygraph, have nothing in your military or civilian record other than traffic tickets, and a couple other smaller things. The IET requirement for the MOS is 5 years, and the SRR for reclassing soldiers will be 3 years. The MOS won't be effective until Oct 1st of this year, so don't worry about trying for it right now, I expect re-flags first before they start schools up.
