I have a problem with how junior enlisted are treated. Am I the only one that believes this? I truly believe that in garrison the army is a normal job. I see no reason to smoking or mass punishment in garrison (or training) at all. Hell I don’t see a reason for yelling in garrison unless it’s a safety issue (like the range). I always hear the “it’s the army” excuse, yes it is the army but there’s no value to smoking someone or yelling/demeaning someone at all imo. A talk, counselling and if need be NJP are all options, don’t even get me started on mass smoke sessions, they always just let me know that no matter if I do the wrong or right thing, I’ll get punished regardless. As much as some random NCO wants to insist, this is a job, in no other job is it acceptable for a supervisor to belittle their subordinates, call them a POS or otherwise create a hostile work environment, soldiers deserve basic human dignity. Anyone else feel this way?
