This is kind of a random post since I’m not Armenian, I’m Mexican as a matter of fact. But lately I’ve been thinking of how grateful I am for the Armenian community, if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I’m at right now.
My grandfather from my mom’s side grew up in Central California with 13 other siblings. My family was pretty much dirt poor and one of our relatives were so poor that they lived in a parachute (don’t ask me how), because of how many siblings he had and the fact that my great grandfather was a piece of crap, he never gotten an education.
This is where the Armenian community cones in. When my grandfather got older, there was an Armenian man who took him under his wing and pretty much became his father. He taught my grandfather how to pick fruits in the fields properly, helped him get his high school diploma, and just taught him about life overall. Now my grandfather inspects grape fields in Mexico and when the same man died a few years ago, he attended his funeral even though he wasn’t immediate family.
The point is, without Armenians, my family probably wouldn’t be where we're at today and I appreciate that one of your own was willing to take the time to help someone less fortunate. It might sound cheesy, but thank you.
